Penetrant testing: test panels/parts cleaning

I- Scope

This paper deals with ALL KINDS OF REFERENCE PARTS: test panels as described in standards (such as the ISO 3452-3) or real parts taken out of a production line and kept apart because they display specific discontinuities, or hard to detect ones, or a specific roughness, or for any good reason. In some industries (such as automotive) they are called "ghost parts".

1- Fluorescence

Fluorescence comes from molecules which absorbs an energetic radiation (X-rays, UV-C, UV-B, UV-A), in fact the photons which come along the radiation. These molecules are excited, an electron goes up on a farther orbit, but this unstable situation is immediately "corrected" by the molecules emitting a photon in the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum when the excited electron comes back to its original orbit while emitting also some heat (infrared radiation).

Finally cleared!

What is the name of the product the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) of which was displayed last month?

First, let us remind you that everything stated in the MSDS is absolutely true.

Wording of the different chapters of this MSDS may let the reader think that oxygen dihydride, a primary alcohol, comes with a number of frightening risks which require harsh safety precautions.

How to decipher this important document?

Along the years we were asked a lot of questions about the MSDS.

MSDS must be written according to the ISO 11014-1 Standard issued in March1994 entitled ''Safety data sheet for chemical products-Part 1: Content and order of sections'' to meet the European Directive 91/155/ECC.

This MSDS format contains 16 standardized chapters. Each of them has a specific number.
